This special cinema event includes the monumental and energetic Queen concert, which was filmed live on Christmas Eve 1975 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London.

In addition, it features a never-seen-before documentary featuring footage of Freddie Mercury and the band, including recently discovered live performance footage, interviews with all four band members, outtakes, backstage clips and sessions for the first-ever recording of Bohemian Rhapsody, the ground breaking, chart-topping UK single from A Night at the Opera.

Rediscover the story of Queen as they journey from a struggling band performing at pubs and colleges to the moment they unveiled Bohemian Rhapsody, one of the greatest songs – if not the greatest – of all time.

The now monumental classic Bohemian Rhapsody sealed Queen’s transition from ambitious upstarts into one of the biggest and most important bands of the era – and beyond.  The band’s first-ever live recording of the smash hit highlights a new concert and documentary film presentation to be screened at select cinemas for limited shows.

Brian May of Queen says: “This concert was very special because it was the first time we ever played a whole show completely live on TV… the Christmas Show. The quality, after great rescue work and transfer into the digital domain, is amazing. And the energy we had comes across very forcefully.”

The film has been specifically restored with stunning 5.1 sound and remastered for a big screen cinema experience, and offers an illuminating insight into Queen’s game-changing year of 1975. The running time of this special cinema event is 89 minutes.

Bookings are now open, and members of Ster-Kinekor’s loyalty programmes, SK Club, Discovery Vitality and Edgars Club, will enjoy the normal benefits and ticket discounts on offer. The film will be screened at the following cinemas:

The Zone in Rosebank, Sandton and Eastgate in Johannesburg; Brooklyn and The Grove in Pretoria; Gateway in Durban; Baywest Mall in Port Elizabeth (where a special Cine Prestige screening takes place at 20:00 on Friday, 22 July); and at Cavendish, Tygervalley and Somerset Mall in Cape Town.
